Former UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt arrested on domestic charge

Former UFC title contender Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt is jailed in Australia on a domestic abuse charge.
The 52-year-old heavyweight was refused bail on Wednesday after being taken into custody the previous evening, according to a local report cited by ESPN.
He’s reportedly charged with stalking or intimidation with intent to cause physical harm in South Wales.
TMZ said the 260-pound fighter texted a female associate with whom he was quarreling to say “I’m just going to murder you in the end anyway.”
Hunt fought nearly 20 times between 2010 and 2018. His matches included a heavyweight title bout against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 180. He lost that contest in a second-rough technical knockout.
Hunt was also defeated by heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in 2016, though that fight was ruled no-contest after Lesnar failed a drug test. He sued UFC and its boss Dana White after that bout, but he came out on the losing end once more.
Hunt retired with a record of 13 wins, 14 losses and a draw. He last fought in December 2018 and was defeated. Hunt told News.com.au in 2024 that he soon planned to return to the ring for a few more paydays.
He’s expected to face an Australian court toward the end of April. TMZ said his lawyers are fighting the charges against their client.
Hunt has experience in martial arts as well as boxing and wrestling. He said in a 2022 podcast interview that he sees himself as a punching bag who learned to hit back.
