Lizzo lets fans decide her sound

Lizzo likes to "let people decide" the sound of her records.

The Good as Hell hitmaker recently dropped the title track for her upcoming third LP B**** - which will be released next month - and she's enjoyed seeing fan reactions to the song and other snippets she's shared online from the record.

Lizzo believes her music will always sound typically like her, but she enjoys seeing fans' assessments of her tracks.

She told People magazine: "I think it's always going to be the Lizzo sound.

"I don't know how to not be that girl, but I will say I posted a snippet of one of my new songs that's coming out very, very soon and somebody was like, 'The '90s are back.'

And I was like, 'Okay.' I like to let the people decide what the sound is."

Ultimately, Lizzo just loves to write "really good music".

She added: "I love constructing and producing and creating just well-crafted music and songs. "So I hope everyone likes it."

The 38-year-old singer's single B**** reunited Lizzo with long‑time collaborators Ricky Reed, Blake Slatkin and Zack Sekoff, and features an interpolation of Meredith Brooks' hit of the same name.

The nod to the 1997 classic adds another layer of pop‑culture self‑reference to Lizzo's new era, one she first signalled years ago when she declared "I'm 100% that bitch" on her Diamond‑certified single Truth Hurts.

B**** follows last month's release of Don't Make Me Love U, another early standout from the forthcoming record.

That track arrived with a striking visual in which Lizzo confronts a version of her past self, exploring themes of reflection, growth and emotional reckoning.

The song was widely praised by fans and critics, marking a confident start to her next chapter.

Lizzo recently explained her decision to call her new album B**** because she wants to "reclaim the word" and "turn it into a declaration of confidence, and unapologetic self-love."

In a press release announcing the new album, Lizzo explained: "Reclaiming the word B**** is power - it's taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence, and unapologetic self-love."

She went on to share that her inspiration for the name came from singer Meredith's song and hip-hop star Missy Elliott, who released her song She's a B**** in 1999, and her own song Truth Hurts.

Lizzo added: "So many incredible women in music have used the word for positivity like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliot. It was only fitting to name my album B**** because it has become my favourite word when using it on my own terms and because I am 100 per cent that b****!"

B**** will be Lizzo's first album since 2022's Special and it's due to drop on June 5.
